My Photos are gone! Folders are Empty... Where are my photos?

Explorer | Level 4

I am a travel photographer and I use Dropbox to store my photos. I had photos downloaded to Dropbox from a trip to a remote village in Africa in 2016. I used those photos from Dropbox on many occasions. Today, I am logging in and I realise that all my photo folders ARE EMPTY!! NO MORE PHOTOS!

This is not the first time this happens as I lost photos from trips in Nepal... folders are there, but empty!!! this is my work and my livelihood... where the hell have my photos gone?

Sending an email to Dropbox is useless because you need a Restoration Link... but I DID NOT delete those files.

I need help!

Hi there @ladybug, sorry to hear that.

As a first step, please bear in mind that each Dropbox account is associated with one email address. For this reason, could you please ensure that you’re looking at the Dropbox account associated with the relevant email?

You can do this from:
If you find that it’s the same Dropbox account, could you please navigate to your events page for more info on what occurred to content in your account, as well as your deleted files tab?

Finally, could your photos have been part of a shared folder by any chance? Are you able to locate it in your Files tab or your Sharing tab?

Let me know what you find!
