All files I save to my Windows 10 computer get saved to this path
C:\Users\acrfr\Dropbox\My PC (DESKTOP-QO0AKAA)\Desktop
I want to save files to this path
How do I fix this path problem?
Hey @westewart1, I'd be happy to help!
It looks like you have computer backup enabled, which adds your computer folders (like Desktop, Downloads, and Documents) to your Dropbox folder.
If you don't want to continue using it, you can turn it off by following the steps in this article.
Give that a try and let me know if anything comes up. Thanks!
Thank you for the instruction. Here is what I experienced.
I clicked the link to the article which took me to this webpage
At that webpage, it told me to follow these steps to Turn off computer backup:
Unfortunately, when I clicked my profile picture or intials, I was not given an option to click Preferences. I was given an option to click Settings, so I did that. Then I saw Preferences, but I had no option to click Preferences, and under Preferences I was Lanugage, Date format, Automatic time zone, Early releases, See info about people who view my files, Manually added contacts and Smart Sync update for Mac.
So I am in need of help fixing the damage done. Can you help?
Do you see the Dropbox icon in the affected computer's system tray?
I downloaded dropbox again, and installed again, and it says it updated dropbox since it was already on my computer. To finish installing, it says it needs to rename my existing folder. It says please close any open documents and try again. it is not able to rename the folder named Dropbox. But I have no open documents, so there is little I can do to help Dropbox rename Dropbox. i can restart the copmputer, but that will just terminate the action.
Thanks for keeping us in the loop @westewart1; much appreciated.
At this point, all I can suggest is a clean, advanced reinstall.
Could you give it a go and let us know how it goes?
I now see dropbox in my system tray.
I follow the instructions
Step 5 is where I have trouble. I do not see the option to click Manage backup.
I did the advanced reinstall except for sync and indexing because I don't want anything synced.
I follow the instructions previously given, and still get stumpted at the step where I am to select Manage backup since there is no such option to select. It looks the same as it did before the advanced install.
