New June 2019 Dropbox Client not uploading on macOS Mojave

Helpful | Level 5

Since my Mac's Dropbox client auto-upgraded to the "new look" a few days ago (version 74.4.115), I am unable to upload any files larger than a few bytes.

To be quite clear: the "old" Dropbox client worked flawlessly for years. Now suddenly it doesn't upload at all.

Symptoms: (I have a network monitor, so I can see whether Dropbox is uploading or not). I change my 40MB single database file, locally on the Mac. Dropbox does a burst of uploading for a few seconds then grinds to a complete stop. After maybe an hour it might do another burst of uploading for a few more seconds. Sometimes Dropbox disconnects and says "connecting" for up to a minute.

The progress bar for the upload sync never seems to change (see attached image).

Network is fine. OneDrive and iCloud are fast to sync and behave perfectly. There are no firewall rules affecting Dropbox. Tiny files do upload and sync OK.

I'm ready to abandon Dropbox forever and move my database syncs across to OneDrive. Can anyone fix this awful experience?

Re: Mac app not working after update

Hello,

I have exactly the same issue. Since the "new look" (v 74.4.115) Dropbox is utterly useless - I cannot upload anything bigger than a few bytes. And as you note the client constantly disconnects and reconnects (and never uploads).

I can't afford this sort of stuff-up; I'm moving all my syncs to MS OneDrive immediately, but I will keep checking to see if there is a fix coming.

Hey there @mickjsanders,

Can you let me know if you have tried reinstalling the desktop app at all to see if this helps with your issue? You can follow the steps here to uninstall the app and then download and reinstall the app.

If you check the current sync status when trying to upload, do you see any error messages at all that might point to the issue with uploading?

Let me know what you find, I’ll be happy to look into this with you - Thanks!

[EDIT]: Just to note, I've merged your comment to your original post so that we can keep the troubleshooting in one location (since I'd already replied to your comment, that's my bad!).

Hi Daphne!

Thanks for your prompt response. When I awoke this morning (over here) a NEW version of Dropbox had auto-installed (v 75.4.141).

I tried modding all sorts of files in the Dropbox folders, and monitoring the results, and so far the new version works well - back to the good old days!

Thanks again, MJS
