No option to disable download on a shared folder

Explorer | Level 4

Hey guys,

I`m trying to create a link to a folder which will not allow the visitors to download the files directly, only to add it to their dropbox, but this option is disabled for me:

I have a personal Dropbox Plus account. Thanks in Advance!

Hey @vladj24, thanks for the letting me know of the details on this & outlining your question on the screengrab!

Kindly note that what you’re seeing is expected, as disabling downloads for a shared link is currently available to Dropbox Professional and Business users.

Hopefully my message clarifies matters!

OK, thanks!

If I will upgrade to professional account and disable the download option, the only option that the visitors will have is to save the files it to their Dropbox account? Or there are more options?

That's not possible. If you disable downloads, you also disable the ability to add the files to their own Dropbox. The point of disabling downloads is to prevent people from saving their own copy of the files.

OK, Is there any option to let the visitors get the files without using my user's bandwidth?
I thought that by adding the files to their Dropbox it will not count as used bandwidth

Rich’s last comment has been spot-on, since your colleagues will not be able to add the content to their account if you disable downloads @vladj24

As you mentioned that your primary concern lies upon preventing your colleagues from generating a large amount of traffic, let me quickly note that Plus accounts have a 200 GB cap & unlimited downloads per day as a point of reference. That being said, I’m wondering if Dropbox Transfer is more suitable in helping you achieve what you had in mind initially.

Please let us know how you get on with our suggestions & thanks again for staying in touch!
