Overwrite instead of append

Overwrite instead of append

New member | Level 2

Hi there,

I use a third-party program that backs up directly to Dropbox (not via the Dropbox folder on my computer).  The issue I'm having is every time I close a file on the program it backs up to Dropbox, which is fine, but it creates another file and just appends a number after it.  This basically means that I have 3 or 4 files that are exactly the same thing which of course takes up my storage space.

Is there a way that I can tell Dropbox to automatically overwrite files that are uploaded with the same name as opposed to creating another one with an appended number?

No, there isn't. That would be up to the third-party developers to build into their app.
