PPT preview has "DRAFT" watermark all over it

Helpful | Level 6

Today I found that there are "DRAFT" watermarks all over the PPT preview of a Dropbox file. When I download the PPT files, the watermarks disappear. This preview with watermarks only occurred today, not previously. Is there a way to remove them from preview? Thanks.

Hi there @HerrK

Welcome to the Dropbox Community!

I'd be more than happy to help on this.

As a first step, could you please let me know if you see this watermark if you:

  • Switch to another browser?
  • Use an incognito/private browser?
  • Clear the cache?
  • Ensure that you're not running any third party browser extensions?

Let me know what you find!

Certain files when previewed are showing a watermark.

Hi @Lusil,

Thanks for the response. I see the watermark in both Chrome and IE, and the same thing in incognito mode and cache cleared. My browsers don't have third party extensions.

Hey @The duMonde Gro - welcome to our Community!

At first, could you elaborate on this a tad and forward me a screenshot of how it looks like on your end so I can investigate further?

In addition, note that if the watermarks were applied within Dropbox, file owners can remove watermarks from their files by selecting “Remove watermarking” in the ‘…’ menu.

Only the file owner will be able to remove a watermark. A recipient of a watermarked file will not be able to remove the watermark.

I'm not sure if you're aware but Dropbox Watermarking is a new feature available to safeguard content shared with Dropbox from being downloaded and used without the content creator’s permission. A watermark can be applied to an image or PDF file on Dropbox.com by selecting “Enable watermarking” from the ‘…’ while previewing a file as the file’s owner. The watermarking option will be selectable from that menu while users will have two options:

1. Copy the file with the watermark added

2. Modify the original file Watermarks can be made from text or an uploaded image.

Watermarking large files may take slightly longer than smaller files while users on our Professional, Business Advanced, Enterprise and Education plans will have access to more features including: password protected links, more link expiration options, larger transfer size limits, and changeable backgrounds.

If that's not the case, I'd check the files' version history to see if there was an edit that would indicate the watermarking of the files in question.

I'll be waiting for your response!

Hi,

It looks that all our .PPTX files when previewed in DropBox has a watermarks on it. I have already checkked files version history and there were no indication that there are watermarking on the files. Also, I have cheked the ellipses and found no feature about watermarking(Logged-in as the owner of the file).

Please see attached photos.

Thanks for the extra detail and the helpful screenshot @The duMonde Gro!

I've merged your post under this thread as your message echoes what the OP has reported already.

Note that I have already passed your comments on to the relevant team - thanks for flagging this with us.

In the meantime, I'd suggest downloading the files in question and access them natively on your device as you probably won't see the 'DRAFT' watermark there.

I'll let you know more about this once I have an update from the team.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Draft Watermark still there. On all Powerpoint files.

The 'draft' watermark has also magically appeared on my Powerpoint previews. Original files are not affected. Looking forwards to this issue being resolved. Thanks

Experiencing the same problem. No option in the "..." menu, same on multiple browser versions etc. Please advise ASAP.
