Hello. I cannot long access an old link to some pictures I really wanted to download. If I received the message "this link doesn't work anymore", does that mean that I have lost my pictures forever? I did not realize the link expired. I wanted to download the photos to my computer.

It means the person that created the link either removed the link or deleted the files that the link points to. You need to contact the owner of the files and ask for a new link.
