Remove Backup of Computer from Dropbox

I just created a Basic account of Dropbox for my teen son to sync between desktop and laptop. Dropbox has automatically synced a backup copy of his desktop that has now eaten up all of the space in dropbox (2GB). I did not want this and cannot delete this back up in Dropbox. I do not understand as I do not have this on my personal computer.

How can I have the files be real-time so he can go back and forth between laptop and desktop and remove this computer backup. If I cannot remove I either have to pay the annual $119 fee or cancel the account and use Box.com or iCloud.

In general, if you don't want to backup computer folders into the Dropbox folder, you can turn computer backup off. 

As for the files, just to make sure that we're on the same page, could you let me know if you're able to see them in both their original locations (in Desktop/Downloads/Documents) and in the Dropbox folder?
