I'm not 100% sure which checkmark option you're referring to there, that you mentioned tapping on. Can you send me a screenshot of this to make sure we're on the same page here?
Also, can you let me know which version of the app you have installed at the moment?
For the scanned file itself, I'm afraid there's not much I could suggest in order to recover this if it wasn't uploaded to your account.
