When I open the "selective sync" window where you can select the folders, it will take up to 5 minutes to complete loading the folders. I guess the thing is loading the *entire tree* of folders (and there might be some git stuff in there which creates thousands of them).
it should only load the top level folders to begin with, then stream things on demand when the folders are expanded.
This should not take longer than say showing the toplevel folder on the web interface.
Thanks for the feedback Paul. I'll pass it on internally.

I'm also experiencing slow load times. I get a list showing some folders, then it hangs for several minutes before displaying a few more, then hangs again before showing the full list. These are all top level folders. Please assist, thank you
Same here. When I first click on the Selective Sync, it is extremely slow to load the list of folders. I have tried on 4 different computers; uninstall and reinstalled, and it is still the same behavior. It used to work faster than this.
Honestly Dropbox, how on earth can this issue still exist ? You do a selective sync and get (not responding) on 7, 8, 8.1 10. When are you going to get this issue fixed, instead of hiding the issue. Is Google Drive going to be the way forward, or DROPBOX ? You call, cos this ain't looking good at all.
Paul F(OP) is absolutely right about how this should work, although I envy the fact that it only takes his five minutes to list everything. I've got a single top-level folder which I want to uncheck from selective sync. I've tried three times in the last couple of weeks and each time I've given up after letting it try for 4 or 5 HOURS. It makes my CPU work so hard that it sounds like my machine could give up the ghost at any second. Granted, I do have a lot in my Dropbox, but this is a top level folder I'm looking for, surely these should load before folders way down the directories which I have no intention of adjusting. It's so frustrating and has been this way every time I've tried to adjust my selective sync folders.
Major problem for me also - i'm on Mac and Windows, just had someone leave the business and moving his 70gig of files to my account is stopping my machine working - I can't selectively unselect the folder as it's taking so long to list. This is not a difficult thing to do programmatically so god knows why it's still like this
Needs sorting or i'll have no choice but to move my business account elsewhere.
