Smart Sync not working

I have a support ticket in to Dropbox but can't wait any longer for a solution. The Smart Sync option isn't working. On my Mac, it shows that I have the majority of my files synced to 'online-only' through the Smart Sync application, but it's still taking up space on my hard drive. 3.17TB to be exact. My hard drive is maxed out and I can't work properly. I'm trying to run a business. I would have never upgraded to Business and moved my projects to Dropbox if I thought they would actually just sit on my computer's hard drive. I need this fixed. You've known about this problem since March and hope you wouldn't have continued to sell this service if you didn't have a solution to a very fundamental problem. I'm stuck with dozens of projects in the cloud that I can't access and no room to move anything to my desktop. I'm completely at a standstill which is costing me a lot of money. I need help now.

Hey Anne L.18, sorry to hear that the feature didn’t match your needs, though I’m here to send over the relevant steps to disable it. 
 
#1. If you’re on a Dropbox Business team, each individual account will need to opt out following these steps: 
 
  1. Navigate on your account Settings: https://www.dropbox.com/account
  2. You will see the option on the bottom of the page Opt in to Smart Sync”, so you’ll just have to toggle to Off”. 
 
#2. If you’re using a Dropbox Professional account, you could reference this resource here in order to opt out. 
 
Also, if it’s not too much trouble for you, I’d like to hear your opinion. What didn’t work for you as expected? Any feedback you give us will be of great assistance, as we’d like to understand what works best for you.

I'm having the same issue since upgrading my Dropbox. I've since had to unlink my Dropbox since it was impossible to do work. Can this issue be resolved? I'd hate to cancel my pro plan, but if I can't sync my Dropbox to my computer, what's the point?

Also I have problem with Smart Sync. I upgrade my many-year-old Dropbo-account to Dropboks Business Standard. (this firefo editor I cannot understand- not accept numbers, not some letters...)

 

All information says: "droboks (yes, ks not work) icon <on windows ten right down> click it, there is folder icon, open it... then mouse-second-button open, and there is selections to Smart Sync".

 

No, there is only "share".

 

So, how I can force-on dropboks Smart Sync preferences? Any windows ten registry manual edit?

 

Of course, I am check all googling- and forum. Also I am uninstall and reinstall dropboks and reboot million times. So, wrong answer to this ticket is "uninstall dropboks, reboot, reinstall, reboot". Right answer is: "Open windows registry. Make this modifications". Or, "download this additional third-source-software, without this you cannot activate smart sync". Or any clever answer. Reinstall not work. I test this same with many computers, and now I know really, "only I need is any special dropboks windows ten software for dropboks pro".

 

Please help, looks all you official information not work. This need real help, not any "check your socket is on the wall"-information...

Hey @suru, welcome to our community! 

My apologies, but I’m not sure I understand the issue you’re describing. From what I gather, you don’t see the Smart Sync option in the context menu when you right-click on an item in your Dropbox folder. This will only be an option in Dropbox files/folders associated with your Business account.

Can you please make sure that you are signed in to this Business account on your computer? 

Have you, or the team admin, enabled Smart Sync from your settings in your account online? 

Have you allowed our system extensions on your local computer? 

Please take a look at the above and let me know. If I have misunderstood your question, please clarify as much a possible. You can also send me screenshots, if you believe they will help!

Smart Sync does not work. I would like to opt out and never receive notifications of it again. How do I do that? Also, if I wanted just to store stuff in the cloud, I could use microsoft, icloud, google, etc. I do not want smart sync. THis is a step backwards dropbox and moves you back behind microsoft!
