Hi Digitalmayhem, what you see is proof that Smart-Sync actually is working for you! But Dropbox has to make their system replace some parts of the mac OS because the link for the file contains both the actual-size and the OS-size and different parts of the OS use whichever size it wants. Meanwhile Apple wants to compete with DB and is not about to address this issue.

Folks, if something is not working functionally in a system of integrated components (spread over 4-layer component layer: interface, application, infrastructure, and platform) and the component that exhibited this for the first time resides in either interface, or application, or infrastructure layer, then it is the responsibility of that component. This does not mean that components in the platform layer do not have bugs, but in designing the above mentioned component these issues should had been treated as design constraints as it was not under the dominion of creators of the new component (Dropbox).

When I do Get Info, I get 50GB of 0 items message. Dropbox should have found a way to circumvent the limitations of this particular platform component called Mac OS X, period. If this was not possible, Dropbox should not have advertised this feature and sell it, because somebody might get an idea of a class action lawsuit.

I have the same issue and reported this issue four months ago. Unfortunately, Dropbox has not fixed this problem for me. Does anyone have any updates?

Re: Dropbox Files Take Up Hard Drive Space

Though I am storing all my Dropbox files online only, my Mac still shows a completely full hard drive. The files that are "filling" up my drive are NOT locally stored. How do I fix this?

Jane,

This is a slightly different question about merging folders previously done with Selective Sync with newer Smart Sync. I have files previous stored with selective sync.  Now I can't figure out how to identify which folders were saved only online this way.  The issue is that I have files to add to the folders.  When I see the folder on my desktop it has only the recent folder I added.  When I look online I see only the previous folders I had saved there, and not the most recent one.  How to make sure all are on the SmartSync?

I can see that you’ve already worked on that very closely with Lusil & a team specialist through our Official Support channel @dasikins, so it would be best for you to ping our higher-level technician on that correspondence for any latest updates. I understand that being affected by this discrepancy may not be ideal to you & thanks a lot for bearing with our team in the meanwhile!

From there, following your post here @ryanlockhart, I can see that you’ve already submitted a ticket to our system & you’ve been discussing your concern with my colleague there. Have you received their latest message by any chance? If so, please let them know on that email chain if you have any additional questions or thoughts & they’ll do their best to further explain matters for you; rest assured that you’re in safe hands!

Following, I’m quickly pinging you back @Joan P.6, as I’ve sent you a brief email back earlier today within the day. Please check your inbox & we’ll take it from there!

Last but not least, I’ve also sent you a brief message on my end @JasperD, in order to have a closer look on your account-specifics together & cross-check our findings!

I agree! It's ridiculous they will not refund consumers for defects in their system. Smart sync is simply not compatible with Macs.

Hoping that your statement is not right...  I use Mojave and hope that SmartSync will work when I get nit set up correctly.  Sure hope I’m not spinning my wheels. (Though selective sync did not work as expected and I thought It was my fault in expectation and that I did something wrong.)
