@Daphne Please contact me for opting in -- I just got a new macbook and i am still mid sync from some external hard drives, but realizing today it is still taking up MASSIVE amounts of space on this new computer and the older one i have it on as well.

Hi all,

As of this week, turning on the Smart Sync update for Mac setting will ensure that online-only files have both logical and physical size set to zero
You can find a full outline of the issue in this post.

To set this you need to:
  1. Sign in to dropbox.com.
  2. Click your profile picture (or grey circle) in the upper right corner.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Toggle Smart Sync update for Mac on.

The setting takes a little time to update in the backend so please wait about 5 minutes, then restart your Dropbox app as follows:
  1. Click the Dropbox menu in the system tray or menu bar of your computer.
  2. Click your profile picture or initials.
  3. Click Quit Dropbox.
  4. Start Dropbox app from the Applications folder or using Spotlight: Press Command + Space bar keys, then type "dropbox" in the Spotlight search and hit return.

Thanks once again for your patience as we’ve worked on this.
Let us know if you have any questions.
