Re: Smart Sync still taking up local space

Collaborator | Level 8

Months and months pass and still there is no solution, no acknowlegement that the product does not work, not clear information as to refunds and no timeline for fixing the problem. Dropbox for Business is now simply aproduct designed to get people to pay a premium for services they are not receiving.

Support, a paid feature for dropbox business, has phne operators taking support requests, not support staff with technical knowlege.

Smart Sync, another paid feature, simply does not work. The only way to bring files in and out of your machine is selective sync.

It's amazing how long you've been able to get away with this scam.

I've had exactly the same experience Joonas... they clearly know about the problem, yet have no fix or alternative work around.

I'm holding out to see if they can find a fix soon, otherwise I'll have no option but to find an alternative online storage solution.

Hey there @isaakdury,

Just to note, I've merged your post here as it's related to this issue and help us keep things tidy around our Community.

So that I can have a better idea of your current situation, can you let me know the version of the desktop app that you have installed, as well as the current sync status?

Also from what you mentioned, when you right click a smart synced file in your Dropbox folder and choose "Get info", do you see the size of the file on your hard drive being smaller than the actual size of the file?

When you mentioned "unchecking smart sync" can you please clarify the steps you took to do that to help me fully understand what you're referring to here.

Let me know what you find - Thanks!

Today - same issue Conclusion? Dropbox is useless for helping clear computer space. Poorly marketed false feature. Good to know I'm not crazy.

Hi Rua, I have checked this with two separate drive measuring apps. This is not the case. The files remain on the hard disk.

I'm quite suprised that there is an incorrect answer saying that the problem is resolved.

Hi!

Is there any solutions to this yet? Very impractical!

This is getting ridiculous. I have 1.5TB available on my hard drive.

Yet DB thinks my drive is full - see screen shotsScreenshot 2019-08-03 10.45.00.pngScreenshot 2019-08-03 10.44.53.png

When is this going to be fixed

I might have the same/similar problem. I just started Smart Sync this morning because I wanted to move ONE folder online only. Before starting Smart Sync everything was fine. After that, every single file on my Dropbox folder has been reindexed and it still is reindexing AND draining my space slowly.

What am I supposed to do now?
