Symlinks with Dropbox Business

New member | Level 2

Use Case:

I want to have a folder with actual files on a shared Drop Box, and symlinks to those files in other Drop Box folders.

All folders are in the same Drop Box business Drop Box.

root/test/somefile.png

root/links/somefilesymboliclink

Both root/test and root/links are shared folders

Using my example, if I create a symbolic link in root/links using ln -s blahblahblah on MacOS, I can see the symbolic link in Terminal. In MacOS finder, the link behaves as expected; clicking on the link opens the original file.

However, if I click the link via dropbox.com, the original file is not opened (system generates a blank page with the note: "Empty files can’t be previewed"). If I download the link, the download is a zero-byte file.

I am apparently making the symbolic link incorrectly. What is the proper procedure?

Dropbox does not support symlinks I'm afraid so thats the issue.

So if you want a file in Dropbox and another location you need to place the file in Dropbox and symlink in the original location.
