Sync issue

I have a new computer, downloaded and installed dropbox. Logged in, and none of my files appear in the file explorer dropbox folder. There is only an empty shared and public folder available. I can't just use the website, as I need access to multiple files and the website is not very helpful to my needs. How do I get the files to show up locally again? I have been trying for two weeks to solve this. The tray icon says up to date, but no syncing takes place. Please help.
