The Dropbox app keeps hanging on "Starting.." & then re-syncing all my files. Why & what can I do?

Hi All,

Dropbox seems to be hanging on "Starting...", it just sits there in that state, I was moving files off of the drive that my Dropbox is on to make space because dropbox wouldn't sync properly, and now it needs to resync everything, but it won't even start in  order to begin syncing! I have quit and restarted both Windows and Dropbox, not sure what else to do...

Hey @Donste2019, I’m here to advise on the best next steps for you! 
 
In order to make sure I’m following-up correctly, can you include a screenshot (omitting personal info) in your next message showing me what’s your current sync status? If that’s looping or isn’t exactly as shown in the photo, please let me know. 
 
Once I have this info, I‘ll do my best to touch-base soon. Thanks again!

Hmmm not sure how to do that, since I can't attach a file, I need some kind of program to store the image on right?

It's been like that all day, also it has quit a few times today but I am not sure if that is related because other users here are getting that too, but their Dropbox starts normally after that (I believe)...

Also, the files I need to work on (Autodesk Inventor CAD files) are "Online Only" when I right-click on them and go to SmartSync, "Local" is not even shown...

I am thinking the next step would be to uninstall / reinstall Dropbox?

OK so, I don't  think I gave you all the info now that I think of it.  To make more space I highlighted a boatload of folders and hit "Online Only", ever since then it has been trying to download them back (I believe), so Wednesday it was wanting to sync (sometimes it said sync and sometimes it said download) like 90k files, Thursday it was more and more (files it wanted to sync), until the end of Thursday it was like 600k files!  I am thinking that now, it is struggling to even start to sync all those files?  Plus it quits all the time now, so I am thinking I'm hosed lol...

As you mentioned that the app is stuck syncing & quits without your input, we’d need to confirm how many files have been stored in the Dropbox folder, since this may be happening because the app can’t handle the overall load
