The default option to open local files is Open Office instead of Microsoft Office. Why?

Today, File Explorer suddenly shows and opens all Word (docx) documents as Office Open XML.  Only one machine; others with access to same file tree have no issue.  When I select "open with" Word is not an option.  But if I search for the document through the Word Browse function, documents open fine.  Anyone see this before?

Hey @Canichols117, thanks for checking in on the Dropbox Community!

If you’re facing this issue with all your .docx files, even if these have been placed outside Dropbox, then this suggests that this isn't specific to Dropbox. Has the file extension changed incidentally (i.e. within Dropbox)?

Please keep me posted on your findings & we’ll go from there!

No progress, but likely not a "Dropbox" issue.  Thanks

Thanks for circling back to us @Canichols117

If the same thing happens for all your files locally & in Dropbox, then it’s a local settings that you may have to change on your end.

Having said that, your fellow Community members could offer their insight, though it would be best if you included a bit more detail regarding the issue at hand, so that they guide you though a bit more accurately.

Thanks again for keeping in touch with us here!
