The "Make Owner" Dropbox function and purpose.

Hi all,

New to drop box and was playing around with it. I didn't exactly know what "Make Owner" truly meant until I did something quite irreversible.

My expectation was to add another person (i.e. my boss) to have full access rights, such as adding people that the folder is shared to. What I didn't expect is that I'D lose control of the folder as well.

So my questions are:

1. Is there a way to reverse this, without needing to delete my folder completely and reupload everything?
2. In what scenario is this "Make Owner" functionality useful or desired, given its behaviour, and
3. Is there a more appropriate function of what I wanted to do (which is pretty much ADD someone to have the same access privileges to that folder as I do as the guy who created the folder and its contents)?

Welcome to Dropbox and the Dropbox Community Stam @st87

The "make owner" feature, is appropriate when you want to hand over the folder and it's settings to another user to let them manage it.

If you only want the members of the folder to have edit rights and the ability to re-share you can share with them, give them edit rights and adjust your folder permissions to allow them to re-share

You cannot delete a folder, when you are not the owner of it When a member takes the steps to delete a folder they are not the owner of, the system removes their access from the folder but does not delete it for the owner. You could delete the contents, but the owner could still restore them.

The best solution is to ask your boss to make you the owner again.

How do I change the owner of a shared folder?
