I get the error message:

Hey there @Peterforest, thanks for joining our Community and sorry to hear you're having issues with this.

Can you please let me know if this happens for all of your shared links or only this specific one?

Also, what version of MS Word are you using when you notice this?

Since you can open this normally through your email, it might be that the Word app on your device can't parse it properly.

In any case, please keep me posted!

I think I can explain this. Please see my reply to another similar post > https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Dropbox-files-folders/Excel-Hyperlinks-to-Dropbox-URL-are-no-longer-...

I have the same issue.  I am using word 2016 and can open links from drop box in an e-mail but can't open them in word.  You mentioned that word might not be able to parse it properly.

Do you know how to fix this problem as I need to be able to hyperlink the drop box documents into my word document.

Thank you.

Hi @Michelle L, if the Dropbox link works normally in the browser, but can't be opened via Word, then it would be an issue with Word directly, and there isn't anything we can recommend directly.

You can try contacting Microsoft support for further assistance on this matter.
