The version history for my file is blank, why is that?

Need to restrore a file to an earlier version but the version history only has one entry, 1-18-2019, which is when the file was created. Is version history something that has to be turned on?

Hey there @hstan, thanks for reaching out to us here!

Version history isn't something that can be turned on or off. If the version history is blank, it would suggest that there has been no changes recorded in the account online.

For example, this would happen if changes are made to a file in the Dropbox folder, and the desktop app either wasn't running to save the changes or was unable to sync the file.

Is it possible that the file was edited through the desktop Dropbox folder, and the changes didn't sync to the account online?

Please let me know a little more info about how and where the file was edited during this time.

Let me know what you find - thanks!

I need to update. Turns out, when I look at Dropbox folder on computer, it shows 12-1-19 as date modified. But if I look at it on Dropbox.com, it shows 1-18-19.

Thanks for getting back to me here @hstan!

It seems the desktop app hasn't been syncing the edits to the files, can you let me know what the current sync status of your desktop app is showing?

Just to note, once the file syncs with your account online, you will only have the initial version and the most recent version saved in the version history.

If you need to restore a previous version, since they weren't saved to Dropbox, you'll need to look into restoring the previous version through the application used to edit the files.

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions!
