Transfer ownership of a dropbox paper doc

Transfer ownership of a dropbox paper doc

This happens a lot using the wrong account (personal vs work acc) to create a doc. Easy transfer ownership is needed.

Hello folks, I hope this message finds you well!

You may keep in mind that your wish has been granted (& thanks for posting us on our Forum with this feedback in the first place ), therefore an owner of a Paper doc can now transfer ownership by pressing Invite > the dropdown :downwards_button:next to the new owner > Make owner, as below:

That being said, I’d like to ask you to keep these creative ideas :light_bulb:coming, as our product experts have been monitoring our Community closely for future improvements.

[Edit: Doc ownership transfer is currently only available to members on a Business team, while  you won't be able to transfer ownership of a Paper doc if you're working on a personal account.]

Please do let me know of your thoughts or additional questions you may have on this change & I’ll do my best to check back with you. Cheers!

Can you link to where you moved it to? I can't find...

That simply meant that this post was moved to the proper location at the time. There was no response to the post.

Is this feature supported yet? Is there somewhere else we should be looking to track this issue?

This feature sounds awesome! Unfortunatley, I still don't see the "Make owner" option on the dropdown. I'm trying to transfer ownership of some docs from my personal account to my business account (separate email/DB account), but the only options I see are "Can edit," "Can comment," and "Remove." Any ideas what I can do?

Thanks!

Based on your description, it's highly likely that you're not seeing this option because you're working on a personal account @sredmond. Since the feature is currently only available to members of a Dropbox Business team, if you're not either a member or an admin of a Dropbox Business team, then you won't be able to utilize this functionality.

I’ve amended my earlier reply to reflect this & this resource can be used as a point of reference for anyone else visiting the same conversation in the future. Thanks for your report & I hope you have a creative week ahead!

Thank for the great explanation! I understand now.

For what it's worth, I ended up having the new account create a new document and copy+paste the contents of the old doc, reinviting the collaborators too. This trashed the history, but it's all good.

No, that's not good. The strategy of Dropbox is simple: no new features for people not paying, even if it is inconvenient for companies they work for. Being main competitor of Google Docs Dropbox should keep the pace with basic improvements Google is providing for *all* customers. Otherwise most important Dropbox advantage - much more privacy-friendly approach - will matter less and less...
