I am a long time Dropbox user and have loved it until last week.
I have been having trouble opening files from Finder and sometimes within apps since last week. Thought it was an issue with my Mac, and paid for tech support for them to find no issues with my computer. Started a chat with Dropbox this morning and was told this is a known issue and the engineers are working on it. So why hadn't I heard anything about this issue from Dropbox before paying for tech support??
And, according to the chat, apparently no idea when it will be fixed.

Word and Excel are better, but yes, I am still having the issue with Adobe Acrobat files. I have to do a workaround to get them to open without crashing the application.
Are those files local on your machine or have they been set to be 'online only' through our Smart Sync feature @Bikergirl?
Could you also share your workaround with us?
