Uploading from my desktop into dropbox

I am trying to upload a file from my desktop to dropbox and the file will not drag into the desktop folder.  I can download files from my dropbox to my desktop, but after I change the file it will not save to the dropbox.

From what you've mentioned, it sounds like you're using the Dropbox desktop app, and just dragging the edited file back into the Dropbox folder. Is that right?

In this case, can you let me know what the desktop app's sync status is showing when you click the Dropbox icon in your menu bar/system tray?

Also, if you're getting any errors please send along a screenshot as the visual is always helpful.

Thank you for responding to my request for help.  I am not showing a dropbox icon in my menu bar/system tray? I check the arrow to see if it was hidden and it was not showing.  What is my next step?

If you're not seeing the Dropbox icon there, that means that the app isn't running on your computer at the moment @mholdren.

Can you launch the app and see if the file uploads to your account after a moment?

If you're using a Windows device, you can press the Windows key and type in "Dropbox app". For a Mac, you should find the app within the Applications menu.

I have opened dropbox on my desktop and have the icon at the bottom tray in the center. It does no show up on the right side where the hide arrow is located or on the list of icons when I click on the arrow.  I am a rookie (obviously) and I can not see anything that shows me a sync process.

Also, if you open your Task Manager, do you see the Dropbox app running as a process there?

You can open the Task Manager by right clicking the task bar, and it should appear as an option there.

HI @mholdren, it looks like you're using the Dropbox for S Mode, which isn't the full version of the desktop app.

You're also trying to upload to the Recent files page, which doesn't have the option for uploading. Could you try clicking on the folder icon you see in that app in order to be able to view all your files, and have the option to upload there?

Jay, Thanks for your input.

Is there a way to download a full version of dropbox? I prefer not to go online to be able to upload files.  I would like to be able to download a file, work on the file and then close it out and have it uploaded.  There was a time a few weeks ago that I could do that, but all of a sudden that option no longer worked.  That is why I have been posting.

The link I provided in the previous message would take you to the full installer, provided you're not running Windows 10 S Mode.

You can then sign into your account and have a local Dropbox folder, so that you can edit files from the folder directly.
