Uploading is stuck. Will I lose my files if I reinstall?

Hi;,  the icon in my bottom tray has been stuck on uploading for many days - it says it still has 2+ days for 121 files - the kb per second rate drops to zero sometimes.  It is also stuck downloading. 

Could someone please tell me how to cancel or stop this as it is slowing down my pc.

I am worried if I uninstall and reinstall on my PC I may loose files?

I can see how to pause it but not cancel and start again?

Hi @Kimc1. Sorry to hear you are having trouble. 

I understand this upload might be stuck. Dropbox has your files saved on the cloud and the files you have not uploaded yet will remain safe in the local Dropbox folder you have on your desktop, even if this folder is not connected to Dropbox. So reinstalling would not affect this folder.

I hope this helps with your concern.  Let's start with unlinking and relinking the Dropbox desktop app from your folder. This will reset your configuration settings. Please find the steps to do this here

A few questions for you.

  • What is the size of the files you are uploading?
  • What is the version of Dropbox installed there? 
  • What is your Internet speed?

Tip: You can control the bandwidth the Dropbox app uses to have it sync faster or slower. Slower would be the best if you see that the performance of other apps is affected by this upload. You can find the steps to adjust your sync speed in this help center article.
