Viewing downloaded files on Chromebook

Downloaded files (articles/pdfs) onto my Dell chromebook. They are viewable on my chromebook files themselves, but on the app Dropbox itself (where i sent them for others to view), once selected then I get a message that I need to "please download an app that supports this kind of file or try opening it on a computer to make edits."
