We have connected wrong accounts with my wife across devices. Can you help us?

I have a Dropbox Plus account as does my wife. I have shared several folders with her with no issue.

She has bought a Surface laptop to supplement her desktop and Dropbox was set up on that as well.

She recently added a folder via her desktop and invited a collegue to join it. All appears OK on the desktop but when she looks on the laptop she see nothing at all for the folder.

When I looked I noticed all MY folders were on the laptop, despite it saying she is logged on, not me. So I had her invite me to the folder and voila there it appears on the laptop.

So how is it that the laptop can sy it is logged in as her but have all my folders on it and more to the point how do I rectify it. Not that there is anything secretive but the Surface only has a small SSD and will fill up quickly with all my files being added.

Re: Account mix up

Hey @Peter S.122, thanks for posting your question on the Community!

From what I gather from your description, it looks like there’s a mixup with the account connected on each device. It’s my understanding that the Surface is the laptop, is that right?

As a first step, can you cross-check the email address connected to each device? In each of these places, we want to find the email address used to connect to Dropbox.

  1. On your desktop, click on the small Dropbox icon in your menu bar/system tray. ➡️Click next to your profile picture in the Notifications panel. Click on Preferences, then click on Account.
  2. On your Surface, click on the small Dropbox icon in your system tray. ➡️ Click next to your profile picture in the Notifications panel. ➡️ Click on Preferences, then click on Account.
If there has been a mixup with the email addresses, it would be best to unlink the wrong account, delete the Dropbox folder locally & relink the right account.

Please let me know how you get on or if I’ve misunderstood in any way. Thanks again!
