Hello. Weird stuff I don't understand...
I have a 6gb free account with 4gb of space
When I share with someone else, they are seeing '2gb capacity, 2.5gb taken' for the directory I'm sharing with them.
They don't have their own Dropbox account only the one used to access the shared area.
What on earth is going on please?

Thanks! So if I share that folder with two people (i.e. plus one more), will it have 4gb capacity or 2gb capacity please? And presumably, these folders 'draw down' capacity from the ~6gb 'parent' or doesn't it work like that?
It doesn't work like that. Everyone is limited to their own storage capacity. If they have a 2GB account they won't be able to access a shared folder that's 3GB because it won't fit in their account, or the entirety of the shared folder will be added to their account and immediately put them over quota, preventing their account from syncing until they're back below their limit.
YOU have a 6gb capacity. THEY have a 2gb capacity. As the folder is larger than 2gb and shared folders use up the quota of everybody in that share they need to either get more space, or, the share needs to be smaller.
