What does this folder icon mean?

New member | Level 2

Good morning. This is a two part question.

First

There is a 'paint splatter' icon on a folder that a phone app made in Dropbox (DB). Does anyone knnow what the icon means?

Second

Said app is supposed to sync to Dropbox and appears to be doing that in the app but nothing is uploaded to DB. I have checked with the developer and they say everything is working and they have had no complaints. Can you think of something I might missing to do? I have never tried syncing through an app before so maybe I am doing something wrong.

Thank you in advance.

Hi @Lovebox, thanks for joining the community!

The icon is actually a puzzle piece icon, and means that the folder belongs to a third party app that uses the Dropbox API to connect to the service.

This is perfectly normal, the folders are used exclusively via that app only, with settings, docs and whatever the app needs to sync.

I hope this helps to clarify matters!

Hi Jay.

Thank you for the response.

Do you have any ideas about the second question?

@Lovebox, it depends on how the app itself is performing the sync.

Generally apps use the Dropbox site as a go-between to sync files between their app on one device to another device.

Since it has an app folder of its own, the data in the app should be stored there and syncing to other copies of the app. If this isn’t happening, are the other copies of the app linked to the same Dropbox account?

@hello567, how can I help today?
