Why can't I upload to a folder I was sent?

Someone just shared a folder with me.  I clicked the link which opened the folder but I can't seem to use the folder i.e upload the files.  My options, from the top right icon, are to Directly Download the file or save to my Dropbox.  I saved to my Dropbox.  I see the Folder Name in my Dropbox but it appears that I'm the only one that can see my uploads.  It's like the two folders aren't synced.  Do I need to be a member of the senders Dropbox???

Hey @Dihartwick, welcome to the Dropbox Community - I'd be happy to help!

It sounds like you may have been sent the folder via a shared link, which means that you don't have edit options, including the ability to add files.

Also, you are right, saving the folder essentially copies it to your account, but doesn't save it in a way where you can collaborate with others.

In this case, you'll have to ask the user who sent you the link to add you to the folder as a member with edit access.

You can find more info about adding shared folders here

Finally, please note that shared folders take up space on every member's account, so you'll have to make sure that you have enough storage available to add it.

Hope this helps, but let me know if you have any other questions!
