Why did the URL to a folder change?

I created a shared folder and that contained files.  I liked the URL form this folder to a website.  A year or two later, I find out that the folder has a new link.  Will links ever change over time?

Can you just clarify for me, when you mentioned that you copied the URL for this folder are you referring to the web address URL or a shared link to this folder?

If it's a shared link, then have you possibly moved or renamed this folder previously? Doing this will break the link to the folder and a new one would need to be created.
