Re: Storage size

Why do shared folders take up my own account's space?

I'm working for someone who has a dropbox pro acocunt unlimited account.

However, it won't let me upload to his dropbox because I have a free account and limited storage.

I work for lots of people I can't join every storage solution out there.

He has paid for pro, I should be able to upload to it and it should not count as part of my digital storage.

I'm uploading images for him to use, into  his dropbox acocunt, my account should not have any bearing should it?

If it does its a very very stupid bit of product planning. Or have I misunderstood the messages I'm getting?

Cheers

John

You're not uploading into his account. You're uploading into a folder in your account, that happens to be shared with him. Since the folder exists in your account, it takes up space in your account.

If all you need to do is upload files to him, and you don't need to access those files after you've uploaded them, ask him to send you a File Request. You'll be able to upload files directly to his account without them taking up space in yours.

Why is it I can not put files into someone elses shared folder if I do not have enough of my own space?

AS I only have a 2gb free plan but they have a massive plan.  Please explain

Hey @Brisbane Cameraman, thanks for posting to our Community.

Shared folders indeed take up space in the accounts of all the members, because they have edit access to the folder.

You can read more about this here.

If you want to upload files to someone else's account, they can send you a file request instead.
