Why is my HD full when all my files are online only?

New member | Level 2

I have a brand new MacBook Air and just want to access my files on it so installed dropbox and kept everything online.

My computer is suddenly full and when I go to see what the culprit is, it's showing all these files in my documents folder that are taking up 199 GB of space that are supposed to be "online only". I checked them individually to see.

Why? How can I get my space back and still use dropbox.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to deinstall it.

What's going on?

Hi @birdyhop - welcome to the Community and happy new Year!

Can you first confirm that the desktop app is 'up to date' which means you're fully synced and also forward me a screenshot of where exactly you've spotted this discrepancy in your next reply so I can have a better understanding of the matter at hand?

If you could include another one from your files along with their syncing icons (omitting personal info if possible), that'd be great!

While we're at it, what's the exact version of your new MacBook's OS? Mojave, Catalina or an older one?

Let me know what you find and we'll take it from there.
