Why should I know the mail address of my contacts?

Dear guys,

could you please explain to me, why should I know the mail address of my friend whom I would like to share my photos of our common holiday?
Its 2019, I cannot believe that people knows each others mail addresses :D I would like to create just a link, which I can copy anywhere, and then they can see and add photos to my folder.
But this option is not available, I can only create a view only link without mail addresses.
Is there any explanation for that, or is jut a dinosaur-thing from Dropbox?

Dropbox isn't a social network. If you want to share something with someone, then you need to know where to send it. It's not a dinosaur-thing. It's simply how professional services function.

If you want people to be able to add files to a folder you've created, then you need to send them an invitation to join the folder. Like any other similar service, that's done via email.

So you are saying this is because Dropbox is not a social network and the others do the same?
I can decide with whom I would like to share a folder, and I dont think that mail address is the only way to do that. I dont really communicate with my friends via email, are you?
I havent got any problems with the email, I just missing other options.

If its a read/write folder they need then Dropbox needs to know what account to link that access to - hence the email.

If its read only access then send the shared link far and wide as an account isnt needed.
