Why was a file shown as read-only only my computer but then in the deleted files page on the site?

Why was a file shown as read-only only my computer but then in the deleted files page on the site?

New member | Level 2

I open a file. I work on the file. I go to save. Popup error: This file is open as read only. I open the file location to check what is up. I see the file is missing. I go to dropbox.com on the web to see all deleted files for that folder. Vualá, it was deleted while I was working on it.

This is a private acount. No one else has access. How can this be possible?

Hi @angelbeale, thanks for messaging today!

I'm sorry to hear about this matter. Is it possible that the file was deleted via another machine or device it was syncing on? You can check the exact version history using the steps here.

Additionally, depending on the program you're using, instead of overwriting the file when saving changes, it might first delete the file and then add it back in the same folder. It's possible this could be what happened, and Dropbox synced the changes.

Let me know how it goes!
