banned from creating private links for 24 hours

Explorer | Level 3

I receieved an email saying this today:

You’ve been temporarily banned from creating public links due to issues with one of your files.

You can still share files directly to others, but you won’t be able to create public links for the next 24 hours. Or, you can restore public link creation now.

My first instinct was that it was a phishing attempt, but the sender and the link contained were legitimate. No information is given about what "issue" was found or which file was at fault, is there any way to find out so that I can avoid this happening again? I haven't put anything but a few photos into my dropbox lately so it seems odd.

Hi @jonm42, thanks for dropping by.

Generally, if you see a banned link error message, it means that we’ve been asked to “ban” the link.

You can find a list of reasons why this might happen, in this article

If you have any other questions though, don't hesitate to give us another shout. Thanks again!

is there any way to find out which of the links was banned? I can't see any file that I have that would have broken any of those rules so it is confusing to me.

Thanks for getting back to us here @jonm42!

If the issue was perhaps due to traffic, then this would include the traffic of all your links combined. In this case, it may not be a specific link that caused this.

Perhaps I can suggest removing any old links that you no longer need to share, to make sure that no traffic is generated from downloads there. You can check out the steps to do this here.

Hope this helps!
