double upload photo from I phone

double upload photo from I phone

New member | Level 2

hi

I always use "camera upload " to save my photo from iPhone to the computer,

but, somehow, I find recently the uploaded file always have 2 "almost the same" file, the original and filtered one. I didn't happen in the past, can anyone tell me how to solve this problem?

Hey there @chijenwang

From what I understand, you’re seeing both the original photo and the filtered/edited one added to your Dropbox account, is that right?

In general, to avoid duplicates, the camera uploads feature checks if a photo or video was previously uploaded and, if it’s been added to your Dropbox, it doesn’t upload it again, even if you delete it from your account.

As such, if you apply an edit or filter to a photo:
  • At the same time as when the original is added to your camera roll folder, both the original and the altered version will be added to Camera Uploads folder automatically.
  • After the original has been uploaded to your Dropbox account, the altered photo won’t be automatically added and you will need to upload it manually.
I hope this helped to some extent! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Is there any way to stop this double upload? My iPhone uploads started doing this too. There seems to be the original picture, and a picture that the iPhone "touches up" without my control. So I'm getting two copies of everything on Dropbox.

Hey @cttvnerd

Currently, there’s no option within the Dropbox mobile app to disable the double upload of both the original and the altered photo.

However, as mentioned previously, if you make the alterations to the photo after the original is added to the Camera Uploads folder, then the second/edited version of it won’t be uploaded.

I hope this helps!

Yes, I finally figured mine out. The double entry is due to 16:9 being turned on. It saves a 4:3 and 16:9 photo. Simply choose 4:3 to stop it. The bummer is 16:9 is what we need nowadays. The iphone always saves at 4:3, Apple get with it....

Thanks for joining the discussion @HelionPrime!

It seems @stucker is referring to the aspect ratio when taking photos on your iPhone. To change this setting you can:

  1. Open the Camera app on your iPhone.
  2. Choose the Photo option.
  3. Tap the grey upward arrow at the very top of your screen, or swipe your finger upward on the screen.
  4. You should see the aspect ratio as one of the options just above the button to take the photo.

Otherwise, if you're taking photos with another filter like portrait mode, this would also cause the same issue as described above.

Let me know if this helps!

Yes, this is the problem.   I can't figure out why there are 2 copies of each photo getting uploaded from the iphone, but they do both have the same timestamp.   Every single photo is uploaded to Dropbox twice.

At some point I will have to find a new solution, but it's dropbox that will go, not the iphone.

This problem is marked as "Solved" but it's not solved.   This reply doesn't even claim to solve it, it just says, yeah it will happen.

This is not to live with. Have you found a good alternative app? That is easy migrate to from Dropbox without losing picture quality?
