help re sync without keeping a local copy

New member | Level 2

i have set folders to online only to save local drive space, but I can still access them without wi fi! Do I need to delete them all locally? So if I access a file in the future I need to delete it again each time? Doesn't sound right to me.

Dropboxer

Hey @salty2, thanks for reaching out to us on the Dropbox Community.

When files are Smart Synced as online-only, only specific information is downloaded, such as the file's name and location, so that it doesn't take up the full amount of storage on your hard drive.

To be able to access that file at any point in time, you'll need to set it to local. This means that the desktop app needs to download it to your device and, to successfully do so, there needs to be internet connection.

I hope this helps clarify matters a bit, but let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!
