apple say I should back up my hard drive before upgrading from Catalina to Big SUR o/s.
If I back up all my personal files to dropbox will I be able to recover them if Apple messes them up, as I think I automatically lose the original copy on dropbox if it is removed or corrupted in my dropbox folder on my imac.
Also I think I need to look at the space needed. Can I get a lits for file sizes of files on drop box or on my imac?
Simply put - you cannot back up hard drives to Dropbox. Thats not what its designed for.
You can back up individual files etc. but if you tried to back up everything (e.g. 'Applications folder') when you go to reinstall it wont work because the other files and folders havent been configured.
If you upload everything to Dropbox you need to make sure you've enough space (www.dropbox.com/plans), check it ACTUALLY has uploaded - i.e. it is NOT just in the Dropbox folder on your computer BUT also online at www.dropbox.com/h AND has green ticks on and then I'd unlink Dropbox from your machine just to be safe.
