.jpg files are supported but something went wrong.

I had uploaded pictures to DropBox in 2013. I had not touched them or edited them at all since then. I sometimes come on to look at them considering they are old memories. However, a few years ago I got the message ".jpg files are supported but something went wrong." on a few of the photos. I am not sure what to do about this. I have read a few of the other online discussions, but I'm not sure if I need to be doing something specific with my account.

Essentially, the pictures are of screenshots of messages between me and a friend that passed away in 2011. Most of the messages are there, but they are all .tiff images. The images that are not previewing are all .jpg. I have some images on there from tumblr that are .jpg and they show, but none of the screenshots show.

I still have the old computer the images were on, but I deleted them from the computer and from the dropbox folder on my desktop. I have already tried doing that part to see if they were in the folder.

Hey @lindss2293, thanks for reaching out to the Dropbox Community!

Can you try logging in to your Dropbox account from a different browser, or an incognito/private browsing window, to see if there's a difference?

Also, if you download these files to your computer, are you able to open them?

Keep me posted!

This happens to me with 1 photo file.
The file opens fine from the desktop source folder
The file opens fine when downloaded from DB

The file has no thumbnail on DB
Could it be the size 126mb?

Hi @cyanish, the image would be too large to preview on the site.

You can see the limits on previewing files in this article.

Thanks.

Yes if i download the file it works. I think it was because the file was over 100mb. the other two which had thumbnails and which would open from the folder were under 100mb. Could this be right?

That would be correct, jpg files over 100 MB can't be previewed on the Dropbox site, however, they can still be downloaded and viewed normally.
