missing video and photo files

missing video and photo files

Explorer | Level 3

Hello, it's been several years since I've used Dropbox and I went back to find a video file of a dear friend that very recently passed away. I don't care about the photo files, I have duplicates in Google, but this file is precious to me and I have no idea what happened. I don't know if the files disappear after a certain time period and if so.... But if this a fluke or there is a way for me to restore the video file that I so desperately hope to find, I would be grateful if someone could help me.

Thank you,

Ella

Hi @esankisov, thanks for posting on the Community today.

I'm sorry to hear about this situation, and understand your need to find the video.

Generally, if the file was synced to your Dropbox account, you'd have 30 days to recover any deleted files from this page online. If the file was deleted within that period it should be visible there to restore.

If you need any further assistance, please let me know!

Jay, thank you for your reply. The issue is that I never deleted any files, they literally disappeared.
Could be of how long I wasn’t logging into the account?

Thanks,
Ella

Were the files located on your Dropbox account? When was the last time you logged into the account prior to now, was it over 12 months ago?

Yes, they were located in my Dropbox acct and it has been more than 12 month since I logged on.

From what you mentioned, it may be that the account was closed due to inactivity, @esankisov.

In this case, I'm afraid we wouldn't be able to restore any of the files that were previously in the account.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news here, but please let me know if you have any further questions.
