🙂 Yes, that's exactly what I said! Why are you looking for such options?! 😉 There are no such!

How do you suggest I 'update' the pdf document that is linked?

🤔 More general, it's enough not be erased... and that's all.

As I already mentioned it could be edited/created outside Dropbox folder and copied back to replace the existing file (without erasing it). Other way would be select other software (there are lots) able to produce a pdf without erase. As a variant on the first workaround proposal could be upload the new file (pdf) using the web interface instead of managing it locally within Dropbox folder. And others , other... I'm not pretending that can enumerate all possible cases.

Again, just take care not to erase the existing file! Nothing more.

In Dropbox share links don't point to file name! they point to file content!!! That's why when file gets deleted, even unintentionally, created link doesn't point anymore to "updated" content, cosa it's another file content, despite file with the same name (different file ID).

As long as you replace the file and do not delete and then reupload it, yes

Thanks Mark, but I don't see any option to 'replace'. What am I missing?

Hi @Engineer DeGi,

Troubles come from software you are using for documents creation/editing. There is not any option preventing this!

Many editors automatically erase existing file and save edited variant anew on save command, which breaks the link (as @Mark already noted). Usually there is no control on this.

Possible workaround could be editing the document, you are sharing, outside Dropbox folder and update your account content without erasing the existing file.

Hope this clarifies matter and helps to some extent.
