trouble with initial backup

I am having trouble with beginning my initial backup of my laptop. I have activated the Smart sync feature but no response. Where could I be going wrong?

Hey @drrichardgarden, thanks for joining our Community!

Would you mind clarifying this a bit more?

Did you just install the Dropbox application on your computer and turned on computer backup?

If so, what seems to be going wrong? Are you getting some kind of error message?

Can you also hover your mouse over the Dropbox icon in your system tray/menu bar to see the status of the application?
