what are the advantages of Dropbox business for our company?

Hello, this is my first post on the forums.  (Hopefully this isn't like Stack Overflow or where I'd be moderated by now.)
I'm managing a small engineering firm with 7 users.  We store all of our non-cad files like pdfs, office docs and bitmaps on Dropbox shares.
Each of our users has a Dropbox plus account in their name that the company pays for.
I've read the one-sheet on dropbox professional, but haven't figured out the pain it relieves.
For those using Dropbox Business standard, what circumstances convinced you to switch to the professional edition and how did you use things like team folders to help, orginization, security and collaboration?

Hey there @JohnBurrill, thanks for posting your question on the Community!

In general, Dropbox Plus is a great way for individuals to control the way they share and keep all their most important stuff private. With Dropbox Business, organizations and teams get the option to collaborate together while bringing admin controls that keep corporate info inside their company.

Another thing to keep in mind when considering the differences between a Dropbox Business account versus upgrading several Plus/Professional ones is that the Plus/Professional storage quota is not cumulative.

Spoiler
For example, upgrading 5 accounts to individual subscriptions doesn’t allow you to share more than what they offer because shared folders count against the storage quota for each user; whereas in the Business team, the quota is shared.
You can find more info about the features each subscription offer in our plans page

Finally, I also wanted to mention that, as far as security goes, Dropbox is designed with multiple layers of protection, distributed across a scalable, secure infrastructure. You can find more info about this in this article

Nonetheless, I’ll leave this thread open for any other users who’d like to offer their input on the matter.

I hope this helped to some extent!

Every small firm I've talked has the same reaction about Dropbox for Business.

We looked at it years ago and the cost that was quoted to me was outrageously expensive. We've been using Dropbox plus plans just fine because they have the right amount of features and storage. However today we got the email about the impending price increase of $20 / user / year and the new "features" are really not all that useful because we already have a very powerful online project management service that outshines all collaboration features Dropbox is touting.

So this is our kick in the pants to look at many of the private cloud sync options out there. We will be switching. And if you're an engineering firm you may seriously want to consider security of your client data and running a similar service on your own private cloud.
