what happened to a renamed folder?

what happened to a renamed folder?

New member | Level 2

A creator of a folder named the folder with an embedded colon. This means that the folder isn't displayable in Windows File Explorer. The creator renamed the folder to replace the colon with a dash character. If the creator logs in to dropbox.com, and looks at "all files", the list shows the name with a dash in it - BUT - if the other users who are editors look at the SAME folder under "all files", they see the original name with a colon in it. Why can't they see what the creator sees?

Hey @taylorpsepa, thanks for reaching out to us.

You can rename a shared folder like any other folder but, to avoid confusion, the new name isn't reflected in the Dropbox accounts of other members.

Having said that, has the owner of the shared folder tried unsharing the folder, making sure that it has the new name, and then re-sharing it?

Let me know how it goes, cheers!

I waited until we (the creator of the folder and I) tried several scenarios. Everything worked after we understood a little more about how Dropbox REALLY works. I think that Dropbox should have a tutorial describing how, after you have already created and shared a folder, to rename it (the original folder name had a colon character in it - but Windows File Explorer will NOT permit a folder name to have a colon in it) and then to get rid of the old folder completely. Too many nooks and crannies in the UI.
