xname.lib and xname.crs

Two files appeared in my Dropbox: xname.crs and xname.lib. I did not upload them. The only other file in the Dropbox is an Excel file that has two versions. What are the .crs and .lib files and where did they come from?

Hi @mrr17; welcome to our Community!

To be honest, these files could be related to some 3rd party apps; could you send me a screenshot of how this looks like on your end so I can advise further?

Thanks!

Walter,

Thanks for your response. I deleted the files this morning since I wasn't sure what they were - here's how the files look in my Deleted Files with the folder name redacted:Screenshot 2020-10-19 145441.png

In that case, could you restore them to check their version history for more information on our website @mrr17

@Walter,

Please find below the screenshots of the version history for both files. I did not add the files manually on October 18, although Dropbox shows me as the owner; the two files just appeared.

Hey @mrr17, I had a quick look around the web, where I found that .lib files contain static libraries that can be used as import libraries for .dll files, and .crs files are typically a type of binary file used by certain software.

Since, from the version history, the files were added from a computer, the cause could be a third party app.

Do you have any apps that are directly interacting with the desktop app?

The only other file in the folder is an Excel spreadsheet with two versions, so that's the only app that I can think of.

In this case @mrr17, it might be worth checking with Microsoft if these files were created by the Excel app, or if they are of some use to the app.
