Add E2E Encryption

Add E2E Encryption

Add E2E Encryption like boxcryptor to allow user to locally encrypt and share content.

Boxcryptor was the perfect solution and was (still is) very well integrated into drobox.

Please do not suspend this service, but reactivat it.

Thanks for initiating this discussion and asking about E2EE.

I'm Andrea, product manager for our native end-to-end encryption solution. I can confirm that we are working on this product (zero knowledge encryption, natively integrated with Dropbox) for business customers. While I can't confirm a specific timeline or roadmap at the moment, I want to assure you that we are aware of your need for this native integration. Also, we (and especially I personally) read your comments/wishes/ideas and all feedback shared in this forum.

Thanks Andrea! Glad to have found someone as you who’s so close to the project. I’ve been scanning the forum for mentions of encryption to try and figure out when we will see the feature live. I have one question that you maybe able to answer. Is it possible that the iOS app will have the camera uploading process included as part of e2ee. That’ll really help me and I’m sure many others to be able to upload raw images from their phones into their account with the confidence of zero knowledge. Thanks again and hoping to eventually get a reply from you. All the best with the sprints! @apfund

@apfund Will Dropbox Business/Teams admins be notified when this new solution is available?

@bblu2095 We will definitely inform our business customers about this new feature! Personally, I want as many of you as possible to use it as soon as it is released.

@jonsno Our team is working on shipping this feature as soon as possible. Nevertheless, I can't give you an exact release date yet. Regarding the camera upload: If you are referring to the automatic photo upload, it is not currently on our list for the first version, but I will share your feedback with our team and make sure that your voice is heard.

Hi @apfund @Mark I wanted to know is E2EE feature available already for Dropbox Business users? If it isn't what is the timeline for it's availability now?

Is Dropbox currently offering end to end encryption natively for business users yet like what users could do with Boxcryptor? If it isn't available yet what is the timeline for when it will be available?

Hi @sr_gbl

Thanks for the follow up! As mentioned before, my team is actively working on developing this feature, but unfortunately, I cannot provide an exact timeline for its public release at this stage.

There are a few reasons for this. Firstly, despite our best efforts to plan and estimate project timelines, unexpected issues can arise that may cause delays or require additional development time. Conversely, sometimes development progresses more quickly than anticipated, but it is difficult to predict these outcomes with certainty.

Secondly, we want to avoid setting expectations or creating disappointment in the - unlikely - event that the feature is not delivered by a specific date. We understand that end-to-end encryption is important to you and may other customers, and my team and I are committed to delivering a high-quality product as soon as possible. However, we also want to ensure that we thoroughly test and validate everything before releasing it to our users.

Regarding test and validation: We will offer end-to-end encryption to select customers in an Early Access program in order to get feedback before the public release. I will provide an update also about the Early Access program as soon as we have more information to share.
