Add One Time Passwords (OTP) to Dropbox Password Manager

Add One Time Passwords (OTP) to Dropbox Password Manager

Hello. A neat feature websites have been adding is the ability to use a randomly generated code as a way of 2FA. For instance when I login to Amazon I have to use my email and password then the OTP from my password app, in this case 1Pass. The OTP runs on time intervals, generally changing every 30 or so seconds.

Some apps for this are Microsoft or Google authentication. It beats say OTPs such as text messages in case your number is ported out which is something on the rise recently. I try adding the most security I can and I feel these randomly generated OTPs are essential for being secure.

I look forward to if/when this is implemented, until then I will have to stick to 1Pass.

I've actually never heard of OTP's, but they sound indeed more safe and I would feel much more secure while surfing in the internet. Let's hope that the feature will be added to the Dropbox Password Manager.

I agree, once Dropbox adds OTPs to Dropbox Passwords I can switch from 1Password. Until then I will not be able to.

Same here. It seems we all want to be able to shift to Dropbox Password from 1Password.

Without 2FA, Dropbox Passwords is very unusable due current way most websites use 2FA.

What I mean is most of competition password managers support 2FA and Dropbox not. Basically I cannot use Dropbox Passwords without 2FA.

It is a basic thing to have.

I guess this DB passwords is a dead end? I don't see any development going into this and just asking for more votes on so ridiculous basic features won't do it. Just very few people taking up the time to post or vote in this forum. The majority will look at the passwords app, its non existing features and simply will let it go.

I guess password management is going on for so long right now, that 1PW for example did for PW managers what dropbox did for cloud storage.

Dear dropbox, your attempt on starting an own PW manager is not only widely inapropriate but also poorly executed. No visible development of a few very simple features that are the lowest, simplest standard amongst PW managers, in fact no visible development of the app at all since release 6 monts ago.

I guess this will die very soon, I don't see dropbox put any effort in this app.

DB itself uses 2FA, but they don't implement it in its password manager.

My two cents: a DB manager wake up one day with the "fantastic-magic-superb-one-time-idea-in-life": create a password manager. They put two interns to do a meh quality app with lack of basic functionality, even ignoring platform specifics like not closing with CMD-W in macOS.

As the app is a piece of crap, nobody used it except at the moment of installation and first uses. Then, as nobody is using the app, they didn't improved it. As time happens and people stops using the app, they are less willing to put effort into it, without realizing that the problem was not the users, but the application, which never had a chance because of how bad it is.

A classic Ouroboros Management Decission Selfiness. They will blame the users, they will blame the interns, they will blame anyone else except themselves for not doing things the way they should have been done. Meanwhile, there is still no native version for Apple's M1.

Jep, too bad. I would have used it as an extention to my DB environment.
