Add Smart Sync Options

Add Smart Sync Options

I think Smart Sync could be improved by increasing how flexible the move to online-only is. Either:

a) Set a "last modification" threshold so Smart Sync automatically moves files not modified in the last "x" months online-only to free up space

or

b) Set a maximum Local Dropbox file storage level so that once local storage goes beyond this, the oldest last modified files get moved online only

At present Smart Sync gives no indiciation of what threshold or criteria it uses to move files online only, and allowing flexibility in these settings will allow users to manage their local storage more effectively.

I agree. I like option a.

Make it recursive so if I right click and set a folder to "local" all subfolders and all files in the root and subfolders change to "local".  You know, the way it should work anyways. Right now it seems like I'm mising most of my files because I want them on my hard drive but "Not-So-Smart-Link" is just doing whatever it wants even though I turned the feature off and requested the files to be "Local".

I did vote for this! Option "a" preferred.

There should be an account-level setting which ensures that 'Online Only' files either stay Online Only (so local copy is removed after file is saved and closed) or are kept locally but returned to 'Online Only' after either a set amount of time (X days?) or if the Dropbox Folder reaches a pre-determined size, to restrict the amount of space on the computer used by files which can be moved to Online-Only.

This is essential for large users (3TB of Dropbox files on a 1TB iMac) but also impact smaller users with computers with just 356GB or 500GB of space as lots of the hard drive is used by the OS and Applications.

The existence of Smart Sync acknowledges the issue that having lots of files on your machine creates but without the ability to auto-revert to only only creates lots of ongoing admin to keep files 'Online-Only'.

I have noticed, through having to use Microsoft OneDrive for work (since wfh became a major thing a year ago) that that product has options for moving online-only after a fixed time (see screenshot)

I have a suggestion:
How about allowing your subscribers to choose say, 10MB+ or 15MB+ SIZE (or whatever threshold the subscriber chooses) for their LARGE files to become ONLINE-ONLY files automatically?
