It's very hard to share files with people when they can only see files sorted by alphabetical order. It would be great if people can change the way files are sorted.
This idea is going to need a bit more support before we can share your suggestion with our team so I’ve updated the status to encourage more users to back you up!
Let us know if you have anything to add or ask in the meantime.
My business provides a link to future customers via our email signature to our "Recent Projects" folder.
I add projects to this folder with a date eg. 10th Nov - Parker - Garden reconstruction.
I would like people to be able to see folders in a chronological order based on their modified date. This to me seems like most people would prefer this than alphabetical.
We have a global community that shares a new video file weekly on Monday. The videos are recorded by differenty people each week but the content follows a preset order. There are dozen's of classes around the globe that access our shared folder to download the weekly video in order to share it as part of a zoom meeting with their local community. Do to different schedules local communities watch the videos in the same order but start the curriculum on different dates. As it stands the files are named with the lecturer's first-last name + content (inconsistantly). It has become significantly more difficult to not have the ability to sort by the Date Modified column. There are ~6 lecturers, so sorting by first name is not helpful after six months of weekly files. The ability for a user to sort a column in a shared folder should be standard operating procedure. The the ability to set the default sort order by column is a feature the folder owner should have. Help us to "work smarter with Dropbox"!
I am often given view access to folders, that don't sync to my local Dropbox. I can only use the web interface for these, and the only default option is alpha by title. Surely it's a minor DB table layout change to have clickable headings to sort. In my case I need to sort by modified date.
If I save to my Dropbox it just takes a snapshot and doesn't live update, hence using the web interface.
